Parents may attend up to three different sessions from those listed below. Not all topics are offered in each time slot.

All sessions are conducted in English.  Mandarin (普通话) and Cantonese (粤语) interpretation is provided in some sessions by headset.​

College Admissions Tests

The Princeton Review

How do you know which tests your child should take for college admissions? When does your child have to take them? This workshop will cover key tests, including the SAT, ACT, SAT Subject tests, when to take them, and how to prepare for them.

College Finances

Kal Chany of Campus Consultants

This workshop provides an overview of college costs, scholarships, and financial aid, and the best ways for getting what you need to be able to afford college.


Tech Parent Panel

A Curated Panel of Parents of 11th and 12th Graders

Ever wish you could get the perspectives of other Tech parents, especially those a year or two (or three) ahead of you in the process? 11th and 12th grade parents will represent different majors at Tech. This is your chance to hear from Tech parents about supporting your child through a successful Tech experience. The session will include the opportunity for questions and answers.


Completing the FAFSA and Understanding NYS Excelsior

Are you nervous about completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)? Have you been wondering about the new NYS Excelsior Scholarship? In this session, you will get a screen by screen walk through of the FAFSA, and learn key points about the Excelsior Scholarship.


Teens 101 and Parenting Teens 101

Elyssa Ackerman, LCSW, Strategic Parent

Does parenting your teen feel like a daily battle? Do you wish your family lived in a bit more harmony? Come to this workshop and learn the basics about teens and parenting teens.  The workshop will include conversation about the need for good digital  citizenship (social media, internet, phone use--for teens and parents, alike.  The core of the session involves looking at  our own issues in raising teens, understanding how we react in the moment, and then breaking down those patterns and committing to practicing alternatives.  This workshop will educate you, inspire you and help you to recognize that you are not alone.   Be prepared to listen but also engage with fellow parents to learn from one another.  The valuable tools you will learn in this workshop will make a positive impact on your family’s dynamic.


College Admissions Overview

This workshop will focus on mapping out the application timeline and building a balanced list of colleges.  The conversation will include tips for effective college research, the role of standardized tests, and ways to highlight student strengths in an application.

College Essays and Interview: What are colleges looking for?

Juliet Castro, College Counselor and Trainer, Options Center

Students are often intimidated by the college essay, and are unsure about how to handle a college interview. Learn about how colleges use these application components in the admissions process, and how to support your child in representing him/herself authentically and effectively.


Finding Excellent and Affordable Colleges

Thinking about the costs of college can be overwhelming to many families. In this workshop, parents will learn about the range of costs in colleges and how to find colleges that offer great value—lower prices and great educational experience.  The discussion will also include special opportunities for funding at many colleges, and the difference between “need-based financial aid” and “merit aid.”

Growth Mindset Potential

Join Kate Sweeney, Director of School Partnerships and 17 year veteran of the Test Prep and Tutoring Industry as she discusses ways you can incorporate Growth Mindset into your child’s learning style.
