Hello Parents and Caregivers,
For those that have a student that opted for blended learning, this week means a return to the classroom! Principal Newman sent out an email earlier today with specific details regarding the schedule, escorting students from subway stations, snacks and hydration and more. Please see the email dated 03.21.21.
As new statistics have come out from the CDC and are being incorporated into the DOE, maybe we will be able to have more students back in the classroom. We will just have to stay tuned to what the DOE has in store for our amazing kids.
Our next PA meeting is this Thursday evening. We now have a Google Form that we ask you to fill out with questions prior to the meeting; it is in the 03.21.21 Tech Talk. This will enable us to group questions and stay more focused. If we do this, we feel we can get more information out to people. Mr. Newman and Ms. Nottingham, AP of Student and Parent Engagement & Mathematics, will be with us, as well as AP Kelly Lovelett, the AP of Biology and Physical Education.
We will send an e-mail later this week with a new link to our zoom PA meeting. This will enable us to post the meeting to our PA YouTube channel for people to watch either again if they missed something or for the first time if they were unable to be with us live. We hope to be able to use all these technologies going forward, once we get back to live in-person meetings we may want to still be able to stream or at least record meeting and have them available. We are trying to make lemonade out of the lemons! Spring Recess is from March 29th - April 2nd; we will pause Tech Talk for the next two Sundays. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Thursday, albeit virtually!
We continue to stand strong against racial bias in our community.

Return in-Person Learning for Hybrid Students began
on Monday, March 22, 2021
Principal Newman sent out an important email outlining important details for any blended learning student returning to in-person learning this week. A brief overview is below:
Schedule
Please have your students check their schedules as their cohorts and schedules may have changed. Tomorrow, March 22nd will be a Cohort A ODD day, Tuesday will be a Cohort A EVEN day, Wednesday Cohort B ODD, Thursday Cohort B EVEN, Friday Cohort A ODD. If in doubt, this is information can be found on the BTHS website and appears in the Daily Announcements each morning.
If your student is in Cohort B do not have them come into the building Monday or Tuesday as they will start in-person on Wednesday, March 24th and will engage in remote learning until then. Cohort D is fully remote all days.
Safety
-
Make sure students take their temperature at home before they come in. If they have any symptoms of sickness or do not pass the health screening please keep them home.
-
Make sure they complete the health screening prior to arriving at school each day. It can be found here: https://healthscreening.schools.nyc/
-
Please remember that masks are mandatory, and must be worn inside the building at all times. Gaiters or bandanas are not acceptable, and masks must not have any sort of exhalation valve without a filter.
-
There is no eating in class and the lunchroom is closed.
Consent to Testing
-
All students who have not already done so are required to provide consent for testing by their first scheduled in-person learning day in order to learn in person.
-
Families are encouraged to submit consent through your NYC Schools Account at mystudent.nyc prior to their child's first day of in-person learning.
For more information from Principal Newman, check for the email dated 03.21.21.

Diversity & Community Engagement Committee
Social Justice/ Racial Equity Book Study Club
The Social Justice/Racial Equity Book Study Group will be reading "Minor Feelings" by Cathy Park Hong. This intimate and devastating book traces the author's relationship to the English language, to shame and depression, to poetry and female friendship. A radically honest work of art, Minor Feelings forms a portrait of one Asian American psyche-and of a writer's search to both uncover and speak the truth.
Please be prepared to discuss the first four chapters of the book. If you are purchasing the book, please consider supporting your neighborhood book store. We hope you will join us!
Sophomore Major Selection Update
An updated email was sent out on Friday, March 26th informing Sophomore students of their Major.
